What are the liquid nitrogen containers or tubes?
Liquid nitrogen is stored, shipped and handled in several types of containers, depending on the amount required by the user. Types of containers used are dewars, cryogenic liquid cylinders, and cryogenic storage tanks.
Dewars
This type of container is a non-pressurized container. The unit of measure for dewar capacity is usually liters. Five to 200 liters of dewar are available. Product can be removed from small dewars by pouring, while larger sizes require a transfer tube. Cryogenic fluid cylinders which are pressurized vessels are sometimes mistakenly referred to as dewars.
Cryogenic Liquid Cylinders
Insulated cryogenic liquid cylinder, pressure vessel with a vacuum jacket. They are equipped with safety valves and breakable discs to protect cylinders from pressure build-up. These containers operate at pressures up to 350 psig and have a capacity of between 80 and 450 liters of liquid.
Cryogenic Storage Tank
The tank can be spherical or cylindrical. They are installed in a fixed location as a stationary vessel. The tank is designed to ASME specifications for the pressure and temperature involved.
Use only liquid nitrogen tubes suitable for handling and or transportation of cryogenic liquids. Store and use liquid nitrogen cylinders with adequate ventilation. Do not store it in a confined area or in an area that is not protected from extreme weather.
